Baking Soda: Can be used as a mild abrasive cleaner. It is an alternative to chlorine or silica-based scouring products, which can have harmful effects on humans and animals.
Vinegar: Used a general purpose cleaner, hard surface cleaner and glass cleaner. It is an alternative to ammonia-based cleaners and other corrosive products.
Borax: Can also be used as a general purpose cleaner. It is considered an effective alternative to chlorine or silica-based scouring products, which can have harmful effects on humans and animals. Although a generally safe alternative when diluted in water, it should still be used with caution and kept out of the reach of children and pets.
Lemon Juice: Lemons are naturally acidic and provide some antibacterial, antiseptic and bleaching properties for cleaning. Adding lemon juice to vinegar cleaning solutions not only helps improve the cleaning properties, but also helps neutralize the unpleasant smell of vinegar. Don't leave lemon juice sitting on a flat surface for too long, it is quite powerful and can damage surfaces.
Tea Tree Oil: Tea Tree oil is an essential oil obtain by steam distillation of the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia, a plant native to Australia. Tea tree oil contains consituents called terpenoids, which have been found to have antiseptic and antifungal activity. As with all essential oils, Tea Tree oil is highly concentrated and should be kept out of the reach of children and pets.
Hydrogen Peroxide: As a 3% concentration, it is used as a general purpose cleaner and bleach. Considered to be an effective alternative to chlorine-based compounds. Must be kept in dark containers as sunlight will breakdown the compounds.
